my writing inspiration

The inspiration to write comes from a personal desire to create characters that are in unusual situations and then watch to see if they can overcome the odds. I love characters that are working through obstacles. I enjoy watching them solve the dilemma. I think this stems from having a lot of moments in my life where I've been defeated. I've had a lot of good moments, but I've also had moments where I didn't finish, I gave up, I didn't make good choices, I was the antagonist, and sometimes I came in dead last.
I find inspiration in learning about other people's experiences and how they handled it. Hearing about alien abductions, paranormal happenings, and life that went in the wrong direction turns my wheels. Macabre is something I enjoy. I can spend hours thinking about situations and all the different outcomes.

Being in nature can be very inspiring, as well. Watching wildlife, breathing in the fresh air, feeling the foliage, soil, and water in the streams all feed my energy and inspire me. I always try to be mindful when I'm out, asking myself to notice how things feel when I touch them, how the air smells, how the landscape lays itself along the trail I'm walking down, and what types of sounds I'm hearing. I like to soak that up then write it all down when I get home. Sometimes I'm so inspired, I record myself talking about it before I even get out of the parking area.

Any type of learning is inspirational for me. It sets off my creative process and dumps new ideas into my lap. One of my greatest life lessons is humility. It's a harsh lesson at times, but one I'm so thankful for. Once I understood that I am always in a learning mode, and I need to be humble and curious at the same time, I blossomed with creative ideas.

When I make time to have meaningful conversations and relationships, my world is brighter, and my creativity comes more naturally. Truly listening to people and giving them my attention, along with asking meaningful questions, always gives me energy and inspiration.

I'd love to hear what inspires you.

Happy Writing,
Dusty
